We Were Always Here: LGBTQ+ Exhibition

The Cork LGBT Archive and Cork Public Museum are opening the LGBTQ Exhibition We Were Always Here. The exhibition will be permanent and live at Cork Public Museum, located in Fitzgerald Park. It will be open from August 19th with guided tours available.

The Cork LGBT Archive is offering free guided tours of its newly developed Permanent LGBTQ Exhibition in the Cork Public Museum.

What is the LGBTQ Exhibition?

From heritageweek.ie from Cork LGBT Archive:

Too often, the history of the LGBTQ community has been invisible, ignored or erased. Having Cork’s LGBTQ history on display in the Cork Public Museum will ensure that it is accessible and cannot be forgotten or ignored. It sends a powerful message of respect and inclusion for a community that too often has experienced prejudice, punishment and exclusion. This is even more important in today’s world when we are witnessing an increase in transphobia and homophobia in the world. By creating this permanent exhibition, Cork can be a much-needed shining beacon of inclusion and respect for the LGBTQ community.

The Cork LGBT Archive gathers, preserves and shares the rich history of Cork's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities, bringing this previously hidden history to light and making Cork's queer history impossible to ignore! We have a physical collection, a digital archive and a vibrant volunteer programme.

We are committed to Animating the Archive and bringing the history to life in multiple different ways, including walking tours, talks, documentaries, books and exhibitions.
