New Short Film Funding For Cork City & County
A major new short film funding and development initiative, ‘deascéal’, has officially launched, bringing new opportunities for filmmakers across the South of Ireland, and in particular, two opportunities for Cork, one for Cork City and one for Cork County.
With the popularity of Cork-based favourites ‘The Young Offenders’, and the newly released Christie, not to forget Cork-born director Brendan Canty, it’s no wonder Cork is among those selected for the short film funding opportunity.
The scheme will support the production of four high-quality Irish short films in 2026, with a strong focus on regional storytelling from Cork, Cork City, Kerry, and Waterford.
What does the Short Film Funding Include?
Each selected project will receive:
€14,000 production bursary
Funding for 8–15 minute live-action short films
Access to mentorship, script development, and pitch training
All films will be filmed in the respective region of the participants, with one film produced in each.
How to apply
Applications open April 12th and close May 12. Learn more about the short film funding.
Applications will be selected via a two-stage process. First will be open submissions, followed by an in-person pitch in front of an industry panel.
Delivery of completed films is expected to be early 2027 with opportunities to be considered for Cork International Film Festival with RTE retaining broadcast rights following the festival window.
Deascéal isled by Screen Cork in partnership with Screen Kerry and Screen Waterford. It is supported by Cork County Council, Cork City Council, Kerry County Council, Waterford City and County Council, and RTÉ, in association with Cork International Film Festival.
